Crop comments: Another Crop, another first-place finish for Bay. The 9-0 Rockets have surrendered one goal, which came on a penalty kick. They’re once again ranked No. 1 in the state division II poll. … Since the last Crop, the Eagles are riding a 5-0-1 winning streak and are neck and neck with Avon for the SWC lead. … The only other area team to receive votes in the state poll, the Eagles have gone 2-0-1 since the last crop. They have six games left in their season and have a chance to make some noise. … Open Door’s success this season has been a pleasant surprise. The Patriots two losses have come to Independence (2-1) and Perry (1-0). … Brookside continues to stand atop the LC8 standings. They suffered their first loss of the season Sept. 30 to Firelands, which could serve as a turning point for their season. … Despite losing, 3-0, to Norwalk Sept. 30, Vermilion continues to win. Six of its wins have been shutouts. … Olmsted Falls has stumbled over the past couple weeks with losses to North Royalton, Solon and North Olmsted. That said, the Bulldogs still have games scheduled against SWC opponents Avon and Avon Lake. … Amherst is riding a three-game losing streak but should still have enough time left in the season to turn it around before the postseason. … The No. 2 team in the LC8, Keystone plays Brookside on Oct. 3. The winner of that will be in the drivers seat to win the conference.
