Men’s Cross Country win Vanderbilt Invitational; Women finish second
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Golden Eagles saw any strong performances in their season opening meet at the Vanderbilt Invitational as the men won the meet and the women finished second overall. Denver Daniel and Kelli Smithhighlighted the action for Cornerstone, as Daniel finished second overall with a time of 26:49.4 and Kelli Smith won the women’s side with a time of 18:19.5. CU will be back in action next weekend at the Knight Invitational that will take place at the Gainey Athletic Complex on the campus of Calvin University.
The men saw individual finishes of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6thplace overall, helping the team to a total time of 134:38.7 that was two minutes better than the second-place team of hope. CU finished with a total of 20 points in the meet win. Freshmen Colten Covington and Nate Vrugginkrecorded the two fastest times of all first-year runners in the meet.
